A product of the Late 80’s. The plot isn’t that bad and you get to see Christopher Walken, Laurence Fishburne, Wesley Snipes and Steve Buscemi in their respective 1990 glory. It seems the cinematographer had higher ambitions in mind. It seems like there is potential in it for something really cool. The plot was mostly there, it would need to be written better, but basically its interesting. A crime boss leaves prison and decides to clean up New York. Things get violent, and the police plan to get Frank (the king in the title) on his own terms. Now that doesn’t sound bad. Then the whole thing is set in NY. The end shot takes place in Times Square, the last shot out is on the 7 train, this all is good. But instead it just falls flat. Not that I was really expecting more.
