I first saw this a years ago right after it came out on (gasp) VHS, At the time I watched it with my best friend and around 1980 in the story we turn it off. I’m not sure why I didn’t enjoy it then. With trepidation I rented Magnolia and found a film that at the very least affected me. Since then I’ve been meaning to watch Boogie Nights, and finally took out a copy from the library. This film is alot more fun, subject manner aside. Although a film about porn in the 1970s would be hard pressed not to be fun. P.T. Anderson creates the same complexity and detail, it makes me wonder what his first films are like, since this level seems to require Hollywood backing.
