The film is just sort of trying too hard, it misses some points, hits others. Overall it is very enjoyable, if not seemly manufactured for the audience. Luckily all the very quirky, stylized scenes take place within the first third. After that hurdle of establishing the kooky nature of Braff’s New Jersey suburbs, the film takes off explore just how fucked up its character’s lives really are. The last third is really its strong point, strong enough to lift the rest.
