Resnais creates a film in and outside the head of Diego Mora, professional revolutionary. On a brief trip outside of Spain, he examines his life and struggles against the Fascists. Resnais jumps forward as we slowly realize is the protagonists mind. The constant struggle of being a revolutionary is showcase, without ever leaving France. Meetings, plans made then broken, ideological arguments, frustration with living in exile are conveyed with his time/space bending style. And he still fits in a personal jab at police.
