An odd Soviet produced/Kurosawa film. A Russian surveyor befriends an old Chinese woodsman and hunter while surveying in the Far-east. Together they survive the brutal elements of Siberia. Almost the entire story is set outside and in Russian. The beauty and horror of the deep woods, months away from civilization of any kind. In it the two men find a deep understanding and respect, even if the Russian cannot escape the trappings of civilization. An excellent, rare find.
