A biography of comic book writer Harvey Pekar. His comics are about real life, his real life: the characters he interacts with, the trials he goes through. Harvey Pekar himself narrates and appears in it. But he is also played by an actor, well two actors since at one point a stage play is recreated in the film and the first actor watches the second actor playing him. Which seems to be in keeping with his comic books. The film has an interesting hybrid format that jumps back and forth from documentary to dramatic and back again. It adds to the reality of the story and pulls the whole thing together nicely. Tight.
