There is something rewarding to seeing such a film. I had to plan my day around it, given its length but it was time well spent. I was careful to take an intermission, to not try and sit it all out. Tarkovsky tries to create a visual poetry, tries to elevate film to high art. It works most of the time, each shot a beautiful composition. The structure of vignettes strung together, not biographically, but with faint connections. It’s scenes from a life, the passion of Andrei.
