I remember in the past disliking Woody Allen films. I started to watch them, and quickly lost interest. Then the sneaky bastard came along with the Sweet and the Lowdown, right when I was listening to a lot of Leadbelly. And I was surprised I enjoyed Woody Allen so much. This was less of a surprise, it having a reputation I knew of. It was funny, inventive and has a high appreciation for film. I’ve seen quite a few films follow in its wake.
