I originally saw Garden State in the theater about six months ago. I left ambivalent, I was expecting better. Knowing what to expect this time I found it less disappointing, I wish there was more laughs and that Natalie Portman was a better actress. I still find it lucky the kooky visual tricks occur in the first twenty minutes; faucets in the bathroom, the shirt matching the wallpaper. You are not dragged through how clever Zach Braff can be. About the best praise I can give it: I’ll watch it if it’s on again, but I doubt I would seek it out.
