Charlie Kaufmann’s adaptation of Chuck Barris’s autobiography in which he claims of being a CIA hitman, while creating the Dating Game and the Gong Show. The film presents his two lives as equally plausible and treats both with great comedic timing. It jumps seamlessly floats through various styles and motifs, never really adopting one look. It’s haphazard in the beginning, but less noticeable after the first third. The other elements of the Confessions pale in comparison to the story, which is another of Kaufmann’s masterpieces.
