Jarmusch has the same eye for Queens (the location is intentionally obscured) as he does for Memphis. He seems to love the vernacular of Chinese restaurants and asphalt siding. This is the environment Ghost Dog adopts the ways of the Samurai in serving his retainer, a small time mobster who once saved his life. After an assassination goes awry, the mob wants him or his retainer dead. But Ghost Dog continues to follow the samurai code, protecting his lord. Jarmusch creates a wonderful world, while very violent is interested in little intricacies. It is very quiet and calm considering its about hit man being pursued by the mob, really an excellent film.
