Three fairly innocent guys (Tom Waits, John Lurie and Roberto Benigni) are jailed in prison together. They generally get on each others nerves, but build a friendship after Benigni finds an escape route. Jarmusch plays the general mess-ups of Waits and Lurie against the absurdness of Benigni, set in a stark, high contrast New Orleans and bayou. The city looks glorious in the opening montage, the Criterion DVD does it justice.
