I saw it in the theatre with live accompaniment by the band Cul De Sac. While the film still has some weak points in the adaptation from Goethe, the imagery was wonderful, particularly the beginning scenes of Mephisto shrouding the town with giant black wings and the first frightening appearance of Mephisto to Faust. Cul De Sac was great, before the show they mentioned the humor and whimsical parts where the hardest to play, they excelled dark evil parts. It was by far the best way to watch Faust.
