For some reason every time I watch North by Northwest, I miss the first half hour(or I at least forget it). It makes it difficult to explain plot, all I remember is he is wanted for a murder he didn’t commit. I watch it for the 20th Century Limited anyway and the overall crazy late fifties design, which it has in spades. It even opens with an excellent Saul Bass credit sequence set on the side of a New York skyscraper. Then I have a hard time remembering what happens until the train, with its luxury and witty dialogue.
