It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a Frankenheimer movie, but Seconds looks like one of his most beautiful. The opening scene involves a man being followed through Grand Central, shot in high contrast black and white, with wide angle lenses and body mounted cameras (I wonder if this served as inspiration for Darren Aronofsky). Arthur Hamilton (who is chased) tries of his life and wants out. Through a shadowy company he literally becomes a new man. It’s very smart and also wonderfully shot throughout, though the opening sequence is the best.
