A fading movie star, has a breakdown and flees home to his mother. He discovers he has a son from an 20 year old affair and searches Butte, Montana to find him. The film is beautifully shot and the locations are quite amazing (in his own synopsis of the film Win Wenders elaborates on the fate of the city Butte and the obvious reasons he set the film there). It was co-written by Wenders and Sam Shepherd the star of the film and it reminds me very much of Paris, Texas. But it fails to achieve anything near as great. The film meanders through the first half, with acting and dialogue that deserve to be much better. Then the story seems to fall apart near the end. It is a pretty, but ultimately disappointing film.
