I watched this as part of the exhibit the Vanity of Allegory at the Deutsche Guggenheim. Malcolm McDowell is a student at a British boarding school full of all the stereotypical, horrible British boarding school characters; The fascist upper class men who, by virtue of age, get to boss around and discipline the younger boys; the oblivious headmasters and teachers, who see there duty to maintain tradition and ignore all threats to it; and finally the lower ranking boys who get shit on constantly and finally take a stand. I was surprised how campy the movie became. It takes a rather serious portrayal of the horrors of British Boarding school, then ends with cartoon violence. I suppose it was made in 1968, real violence was going on outside the theater.
