A bad documentary about the Pixies. It had two problems: the members of the Pixies don’t talk much and seem to lead fairly uneventful lives; the documentary itself felt like something to come out of weekend course at a community college. The filmmakers relied entirely on handheld DV cameras, crappy editing techniques and horrific typography. A good example was the crappy background music. Why the hell would you create a new score when you’re making a cheap documentary about musicians? (It gets particularly pathetic watching Joey Santiago composing a good score for a real documentary on his powerbook). Horrible and boring this film offers very little, what a wasted opportunity.
