My Architect is about Nathaniel Kahn search for some piece of his father Louis Kahn. The film covers the architecture extremely well, featuring some fantastic interviews with the likes of Philip Johnson and Moshe Safdie. At times it’s heavy-handed with bombastic symphonic montages of Kahn’s architecture. Most of the film operates on many different levels, commenting on Kahn’s work and life, Nathaniel’s impressions of his father and family and even the constructed nature of documentary film. It’s unique how it well operates on all these levels at the same time creating an incomparable portrait of the father and also the son.
