A Private Function

A basic comedy that is disjointed and at times hard to comprehend. The premise of the immediate post-war UK still food rationing, leading to the raising and slaughter of an illegal pig is terrific. Chiropodist Michael Palin and his ambitious wife Maggie Smith play their roles well if not stereotypically. But the movie never really rises above the promises of "funny" the plot provides.
