Humphrey Bogart and a young down-and-outer meet up with an old timey prospector to find their fortunes in the Sierra Madre. Eventually Bogart goes to Hell. If you have any doubts of his fate, flames literally fill the screen. The lack of ambiguity in the film, is made up by Bogart's descent into gold-fever-madness. Their is a spark in his eye early on at the mere mention of gold. As the film progresses he devolves into a obsessed, paranoid, shell consumed by his delusions and gold.
