Where The Wild Things Are starts strong, the camera bounding around with 8-year-old Max as he chases his dog, builds a snow fort, engages in a snow ball fight with some teenagers. But things get out of hand, Max becomes upset and angry and leaves via sail boat to monster island. The film from that point is magnificent to watch; The wild things look marvelous and tangible, the landscapes of sand dunes and forests are fantastic, every moment is golden hour. But it's on the island that this hipster paradise tarnishes. The film becomes overly long, the wild things whine. If only it were half as long, It would be twice as enjoyable
