An excellent chronicle of immigrant underbelly of the global western world and their struggle to live a safe life in an insolent, exploitative land. Dirty Pretty Things takes place in London, but could be the subbasements, back alleys, and grey shops anywhere. Chiwetel Ejiofor portrays Okwe with exhausted dignity and a kind heart. Illegally in England, he works two jobs with occasional medical consultations to fellow immigrants who will not or can not go through the proper channels. His characters strength rises above his ruthless surroundings. It's a well crafted, exceptional film that even manages a promising ending, despite it's bleak commentary.
