A deep reflection of a British prison in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and the attempts of those inside to be recognized as political prisoners. Hunger doesn't provide a lot of context, focusing instead on the physicality of those involved. The film is extremely restrained, nearly dialogue free expect for one notable exception. Despite the visceral conditions, it's visually striking with beautiful lulls between the often violent interactions.
