Casino Royale is good enough that almost stands on it's own outside of James Bond. Daniel Craig's Bond is a realistic, emotional character, with believable motives and desires. His relationship with Vesper is witty, balanced and authentic. The villain even brutally tortures Bond for legitimate reason. In short it is a contemporary film, entertaining and smart about it's relationship to the franchise.
