A formulaic, hackneyed story that is masterfully staged. Retiring cop takes one last case with rookie cop, serial killer kills based on the 7 deadly sins. The routine extends to the non-specific, anti-location. Even the detective's desks are interchangeable placeholders. The film not only builds on, it flaunts clichés. And it' still constitutes a fantastic thriller.
