A group of settlers make their way across the Oregon Trial, under the guidance of a unreliable mountain-man. Meek's Cutoff wholly embraces the hardship of the Oregon Trail, focusing on the minutia of survival. As the wagon train wanders the parched high plains without purpose, direction or water. It's as understated and open as Reichard's other films and her style is well suited in a period piece. A subtle, unprepossessing Western, indefinite and open to interpretation.
