In some ways Charley Varrick is a a poor man’s No Country for Old Men. A hardboiled story of a bank robbery, a ton of money, a hit man and Walter Matthau’s emotionless genus. His wife dies, all of his partners die, and Charley doesn’t shed a tear. Instead he sleeps with a women who’s house he broke into. Simple, straight forward crime-story telling. With no emotion what so ever. Just the emotionless greed of a hardened criminal.
