A thrilling, slow burn of a film. Like it says on the tin, they Escape from Alcatraz. Not much else takes place, yet it masterfully builds up the plot, the relentlessness of federal prison and the character tropes. Don Siegel’s skillful direction and Clint Eastwood’s grit make an exciting film.
